The continental breakfast was good and there was variety in the pastries from day to day . The room was large, very clean and well equipped. I also particularly enjoyed the separate distinct sitting areas - in front of the fire, the library and a small outside terrace (which I didn't use) which was a nice added bonus for a small hotel. The hotel is in a convenient central position of the city such that it was possible to get around relatively safely on foot (within reason but noting like any other major city that you need always to be careful and aware of nearby areas to avoid) as well as uber/taxis and public transport. The reception staff were patient and helpful with questions and advice.

What an absolutely lovely, charming hotel. The unique decor, the lovely helpful approach from staff, complimentary choice of soft drinks and gas fires in the bedrooms, the free wine tasting upon return from our days out in the afternoons all made this an amazing stay. Located 10 minutes walk from the railway station at Powell Street, it was easy to get to and from the airport and even easier to walk to any of San Fransisco's many sights in half an hour.

It’s one of the pleasures to stay here while being in San Francisco and an attraction by itself to stay in a boutique hotel with British old fashioned flourish interiors with a vibe of old San Francisco and a touch from the world of fashion and music from 1960-70-s. I like an authentic old elevator though it takes additional minutes to open or close it properly. Its a pleasure to sit near the gas-fireplace as the evenings in San Francisco are rather cold. An oatmeal+nuts and cranberries and a good tea is all I need for breakfast so the small choice but of proper quality products suit me. The luxerous Verbena bath products are one more welcoming touch.

A really charming British themed inn in the heart of San Francisco. Location is great and as a solo female traveller, I never felt unsafe in the area. There are also some great places to eat just a few minutes away (Uncle Vitos and Pinterest Diner). Peacekeeper is also great for drinks. My room was absolutely huge (little kitchen area, large fireplace, bathroom with tub and dressing room with clothes storage). The bed was really comfortable and I felt really at home my whole stay. The lounge area was lovely and it was nice to be able to sit there with a coffee or some wine and cheese! I’d stay again.

It is a charming quirky place in a great location for a visit to SF. Breakfast was simple but good with tea coffee toast cereal yoghurt and croissants. The staff were helpful. The free wine and nibbles in the evening in the lovely lounge was a real treat. What makes it quirky is the 60’s artwork and old fashioned decor. It is an old place and you have to accept those limitations. Our room was big with a high old fashioned bed. There was an open fire place which we turned on by mistake as it is gas lit. The bathroom was modern and very clean. Windows and blinds all a bit wonky and old. But fine. We had a lovely stay here

The cutest boutique inn with a great happy hour with wine and snacks such as grapes, crackers and cheese and a well decorated eccentric common area. The room itself was spacious, cute reading nook, cozy armchairs and a fireplace. Carpeted but clean and comfy

This hotel was fantastic not a luxury one but really nice. The hotel staff - all of them - was friendly and serviceminded. The room was large with a small kitchenet. We apprecited that there were bathrobes for both of us. The location was perfect. The breakfast was included in the room price. The porridge was very good. I should have appreciated if there had been also vegetables like tomatoes and cucumber. It was a positive suprise that it was a possibility to enjoy wine and cheese in the breakfast/library room each afternoon

We loved this place! Everything there was great! Starting with the staff, who is super friendly and helpful with everything you might want; the decoration of the place is unique, the rooms are super comfortable (clean, spacious for San Francisco) with a fire place and a small kitchen area; the 'nibbles & wine' event at 5pm (for free, no sign-up needed), the breakfast (only sweet, though, which wasn't a problem for us, but good to know if you're not into sweet breakfast), the common area downstairs with extra couches, reading areas, a fire place, a small courtyard. Location is great, too, it's only a few blocks to Chinatown and to the trams.

I liked everything! The hotel is centrally located. We were lucky that the very polite staff upgraded our room, and when I entered the room, I instantly fell in love with it. It was spacious, with a fireplace, beautiful street view, elegant decor, pop-art paintings, kitchenette, and dressing room. The breakfast was satisfying, and the dining area was amazing, tastefully decorated to match both old and new styles. The hotel offers valet service for parking your car, which is quite expensive, and it's your choice to accept it or not. If you search on your own, you can find many other parking options that are much cheaper nearby. This hotel is a reason to return to San Francisco.

The White Swan Inn is a delightful older hotel. A bit like someone's favorite spinster great-aunt, she is showing her age a bit, but in such a way that it only adds to the ambiance. The breakfast/happy hour room is comfy and the breakfast was well presented. The White Swan reminded me very many of hotels I have stayed in in Europe. A hotel snob who wants everything to be "state of the art" might be disappointed, but I was more than pleased. The functional fireplace in the room (gas insert) added a lovely touch.
